Best Vegan Bakeries in Brooklyn

Our guide to the best vegan bakeries in Brooklyn features a guest contributor, Sonia who is based in New York and has been on a plant-based diet for years and a completely vegan diet for over a decade.

For years, I worked slinging coffees, cakes, and sandwiches at a little café in Norman, Oklahoma. While we were considered a vegan friendly (not purely vegan) restaurant, all our cakes, pies and cookies were vegan – always. I would get such a giggle out of customers who had a certain idea of what “vegan” was, and would stand there – gob smacked- by the massive triple layer lavender cakes, stacks of cowgirl cookies, and massive trays of brownies.

They would sometimes ask, “these are vegan? What are they made out of?”. To which I would smile, and reply, “Sugar, flour, and fat – just like any other cake!”

Vegan baking has come so far, even just in the decade I have been vegan. Many bakeries now carry at least one vegan cupcake option, and some more vegan-friendly or strictly vegan bakeries push the limits on what is available when you’re struck by a sweet tooth attack.

Here are some of my top picks for the best vegan-friendly bakeries in Brooklyn. For more vegan meals around the city, check out the best vegan restaurants in NYC for more options!
