Sally Roots
Address: 195 Wyckoff Avenue
Starting this guide to brunch in Bushwick strong with one of the best patios in Brooklyn that also happens to have some of the best brunch in Bushwick. Sally Roots is a Caribbean-American restaurant not only has great food but they have a great setting too.
The interior has kitschy decor and the outdoor is covered with plants and large umbrellas over many of the tables, making it the perfect place for sun or shade options on those nice weather weekends.
The Caribbean-American fare shines here and the best part is that nothing costs over $20. For brunch, make sure you take advantage of their 90 minutes of bottomless drinks, they’re all great and they have three different options ranging from boozy to the most boozy.
As far as entrees go, do not skip out on the pineapple skillet french toast. The mojo shrimp and grits are also delightful and it wouldn’t be the worst thing to over-order at Sally Roots to try some of everything.
Open every day for dinner and brunch on the weekends. They do not accept reservations but have both indoor and outdoor seating (and maybe one of the best patios in Brooklyn). Just make sure you order a rum-infused cocktail (the pina colada is my favorite) to accompany your delicious brunch in Bushwick.
Bunna Cafe
Address: 1084 Flushing Avenue
No Bushwick food round-up or guide is complete without a variety of cuisine choices in the neighborhood and Bunna Cafe is not only one of the best brunch spots in Bushwick but some of the best Ethiopian food around. Not to mention, the experience itself is one of a kind, served family-style at long tables where you need to get to know your neighbors and completely vegan.
Maybe I’m going to start to sound like a broken record but there hasn’t been one bad thing I’ve ordered on the brunch menu or otherwise at Bunna Cafe but no matter what, I always include an order of sweet plantains. From there, you can get a combo of a couple of entrees and sides or stick with the al la carte menu option.
Bunna Cafe is open for lunch and dinner every day but Tuesday. They accept reservations and have both indoor and outdoor seating options available.
Hartbreakers
Address: 313 Knickerbocker Avenue
Initially, I was drawn to visit Hartbreakers because of its very colorful and very retro diner-style vibes. Then I read that it was from the same people as Champs Diner and I was instantly excited to try a place that will also offer incredible Vegan dishes that do not taste Vegan.
The Hartbreaker sandwich is the best thing on the menu but if you want something more brunch focused, the New York groove or sunrise bandit are worth a try. They also have ample number of side options to accompany your delicious sandwiches.
Heartbreakers is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The vibe is casual but the food is anything but making it this one of the best places for brunch in Bushwick. The best part? Brunch is all day, every day. Reservations are not accepted. Both indoor and outdoor dining are available.
Le Garage
Address: 157 Suydam Street
Le Garage gets his namesake from the location itself. Housed in a former garage, this brunch spot in Bushwick is owned by a mother-daughter duo that serves up some delicious homestyle French food with a touch of Mediterranean influences.
Just like so many other places for brunch in Bushwick, this space is very aesthetically pleasing with a small wooden bar with metal stools and a mom and pop feel throughout the restaurant. It’s the perfect place for dining solo or taking the family (especially if your mom is in town) for some delicious French food and some of the best brunch in Bushwick.
I would go against everything I believe to be the perfect French brunch if I didn’t recommend the croque madame (or monsieur) and the pain perdu. Le Garage also has all the other French classics including omelets, yogurt and granola and deviled eggs. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but please make sure to include a chocolate croissant in one way or another. You will not be disappointed.
Le Garage is open every day except Monday and Tuesday for dinner and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining and reservations are accepted.
Mominette Bistro
Address: 221 Knickerbocker Avenue
Another French brunch spot in Bushwick that is top notch is Mominette Bistro. Not only do they also have one of the best patios in Brooklyn, they also have a delicious brunch menu full of all the French classics including oeuf benedict, florentine, omelettes, fritattas, croque madadmes and of course, croissants. You can’t go wrong with their waffles either.
The cocktails are solid as well and they have a great wine list to accompany your meal. Whatever you do, make sure mac and cheese is somewhere on your table.
Mominette Bistro is open on the weekends for brunch and open every day but Wednesday for lunch and dinner. They accept reservations and it is highly encouraged that you enjoy this brunch in Bushwick outdoors.
Tong
Address: 321 Starr Street
Just another delicious brunch spot in Bushwick that not only has amazing brunch but is set in a very aesthetically pleasing industrial-chic space. It also offers everything you want in a restaurant complete with neighborhood vibes and the best and authentic Thai food in the neighborhood.
Tong is best to come with friends so you can try everything but if you’re just doing a casual brunch at the bar, do not leave without ordering the banana blossom pancakes and grilled octopus skewers covered in a chili lime sauce. I’m not even the biggest octopus fan but these are so delicious, I can’t resist.
They also offer complimentary (and delicious) chive dumplings with every entree order, which is almost reason enough to visit this brunch spot in Bushwick.
Tong is open every day for brunch and dinner opening at noon. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining and reservations are accepted.
Heavy Woods
Address: 50 Wyckoff Avenue
I first came to Heavy Woods because I heard they had an amazing buttermilk biscuit, which is one of my all-time favorite dishes. Not only do they have an amazing biscuit, they also have one of my favorite casual brunches in Bushwick specializing in Cajun fare.
If you want something a little more than a biscuit, make sure you order one of their untraditional egg plates, which also includes said incredible biscuit. The angry hippy is my favorite served with eggs, grits, gravy, and a biscuit. Make sure you ask for the blueberry jam on the side.
Heavy Woods is open every day for a late lunch and dinner and they are open for brunch on the weekends starting at noon. Reservations are not accepted but if you get there relatively early, you shouldn’t have difficulty getting a table. Heavy Woods has both indoor and outdoor seating.
La Cantine
Address: 60 St Nicholas Avenue
For some of the best breakfast sandwiches around look no further than La Cantine. The minimalist vibe is perfect with pink walls and plants throughout. They also have delicious coffee and it is the perfect place to meet a friend for brunch in Bushwick or enjoy some time with yourself.
The poblano egg and cheese is my favorite sandwich on the menu but if the pan con tomato is on the menu, please order it. It tastes just like you’re eating it at a cafe in Spain, which is obviously perfect. They also have delicious pastries, which I always recommend adding to every meal.
La Cantine is open every day for breakfast (or brunch) and every night for dinner. Reservations are not accepted but they do offer both indoor and outdoor dining as a delicious spot for brunch in Bushwick.
Pitanga
Address: 207 Starr Street
Pitanga is another classic brunch spot in Bushwick set inside the most beautiful facade and has a delightful outdoor dining set up. This Brazillian spot is seriously one of the best spots for brunch in Bushwick!
The baked egg sandwich is delightful and the portobello “steak” sandwich is another favorite. Everything on the menu is influenced by Brazilian flavors and is completely vegetarian or vegan. They also have delicious acai bowls, smoothies, juices, and coffees.
Pitanga is open every day for brunch and serves some of the most delightful brunch fare in the neighborhood that also doesn’t make you feel like you need to immediately go home and take a nap. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining and while reservations are not accepted, they often have open tables.
Father Knows Best
Address: 611A Wilson Avenue
You’re initially drawn to Father Knows Best for their patio if you’re a fan of outdoor dining and brunching when the weather is nice. Their patio is low-key with wooden tables, umbrellas, and art on the walls. The indoor vibe is also great and unpretentious, complete with a long wooden bar, wooden tables, and wooden stools.
As far as food goes, it is also some of the best brunch in Bushwick. The menu draws from comfort food but each item has a unique flair. As always, I recommend ordering a savory item as well as a sweet one.
Bring friends and try lots of different items but do not leave without trying the cheddar scallion biscuits with honey chipotle butter, the macho manachos, Father Knows Best’s take on chilaquiles. The papi’s huevos are also delicious and one of the best renditions of huevos rancheros I’ve ever tasted.
Father Knows Best is open every day for brunch until late every night. Reservations are not accepted but there are usually spots open. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining.
Roberta’s
Address: 261 Moore Street
Not only is Roberta’s one of the best spots for pizza in Brooklyn, but if you’re like me, you’ll use great pizza as an excuse to eat it anytime of the day which is why I am including it as some of the best brunch in Bushwick, even though they don’t really have a traditional ‘brunch’ menu.
As far as food goes, you order pizza at Roberta’s. My favorite (and the rest of America’s favorite) is the bee sting is the best pizza second only to the classic margherita. If you want something with a white sauce, the white guy is also incredible. They also have delicious appetizers, pastas, and salads and a killer panna cotta dessert.
Roberta’s is open every day for lunch and dinner (opening at noon) and offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Roberta’s accepts reservations, which are definitely recommended since this is a very popular place to eat.
Sea Wolf
Address: 19 Wyckoff Avenue
Looking for a brunch spot in Bushwick that covers the best of the land and sea dishes out there? Sea Wolf is your answer. They have a fun play on words but seriously, this is one of the top choices for best brunch in Bushwick.
They offer their raw bar all day, make sure you get the oysters and enjoy the seafood tower with a few friends. With three tiers high, towering with all the seafood you can imagine from tuna tartare to lobster to oysters.
If seafood isn’t your thing, Sea Wolf also has some delicious land (non-seafood) options including eggs any style, chicken and waffles, and breakfast tacos. They also have a burger made with Pat LaFrieda beef, which is the quality stamp of approval to know you’re getting a good cut of beef. Their chicken and waffles are also fantastic.
Sea Wolf is open every day for brunch and dinner. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining and accept reservations for both. It’s located on the infamous Wyckoff Avenue and is the perfect spot to start your day of exploring all the cool things to do in Bushwick!
Plaza Ortega
Address: 140 Stanhope Street
From the outside Plaza Ortega looks more like a bodega and that’s because it is but it also happens to be home to some of the best brunch in Bushwick. Open every day but Wednesday for lunch and dinner, Plaza Ortega is a place for everything but most importantly, a place for delicious tacos.
The bodega slash restaurant has plenty of seating in the back and is great for groups. They also have a long bar and is a great place to spend a few hours.
You can’t leave without trying the birria ramen that uses Nissin Cup Noddles (aka Cup of Noodles) as its base. They also have delicious tacos, tortas, chilaquiles and mangonada, a perfect combination of frozen mango, chamoy and spicy tamarind candy. For dessert, save room for ice cream and paletas.
Plaza Ortega offers indoor seating at both tables and a long bar, as mentioned above. There are a few tables outside as well. Reservations are not accepted.
Tabare Bushwick
Address: 1006 Flushing Avenue
For flavors from Uruguay and some of the best brunch in Bushwick, you need to add Tabare to your radar and weekend plans.
he vibe at Tabare Bushwick is also cozy, rustic, and the perfect combination of Latin American, Italian and Spanish flavors making this by far one of the best brunch spots in Brooklyn.
As far as food goes, the empanadas are the name of the game. There are several options to choose from and each order comes with two different ones. For a traditional Uruguayan meal, order the Choripan (grilled sausage sandwich with chimichurri) or the Chivito Completo (a loaded filet mignon sandwich with all kinds of goodness on it). Their churrasco a Caballo is also a show stopper, the skirt steak is topped with a sunny side-up egg and chimichurri.
Tabare Bushwick is open every day for dinner and brunch on the weekends. They accept reservations and offer both indoor and outdoor dining. They also offer one of the best boozy brunches in Bushwick. Tabare only accepts cash and AMEX.
