Where is the Prospect Park Ice Skating Rink?

Prospect Park ice skating at lakeside

Located in Prospect Park, one of the most famous parks in Brooklyn at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside. There are two ice skating rinks, the Lakeside covered rink and the Lakeside Outdoor rink to enjoy this fun winter activity!

When is Prospect Park Ice Skating?

The Prospect Park ice skating season typically is from the months of mid to late November to the end of March.

These hours are subject to change but according to their website, this is their schedule for ice skating in Prospect Park.

Lakeside Covered Rink
Monday through Thursdays 9:00 am  to 5:30 pm
Fridays 9:00 am  to 7:30 pm
Saturdays 12:45 pm to 7:00 pm
Sundays 12:45 pm to 5:00 pm

Lakeside Outdoor Rink
Mondays through Thursdays  9:00 am to 7:15 pm
Fridays  9:00 am to 9:00 pm
Saturdays 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Sundays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

How Much Prospect Park Ice Skating?

There are two different costs for Prospect Park ice skating, one cost for admission and another for ice skate rentals if you need them.

You can also rent helmets, which are great for taking extra safety precautions, especially if you’re new as well as knee pads or elbow pads.

For younger ice skaters there are also adorable penguin skate aids that they can use to help them learn how to skate. You push them along on the ice, think like a medical walker but for ice in an adorable small penguin package!

If you have your own skates you can get your skates sharpened here too.

Prices do not include tax! And if you book online expect there could be a processing fee.

Prospect Park ice skating is for all ages, kids who are 5 years or older can ice skate on their own, children ages 3 years to 5 years old need to be with an adult at all times.

Admission for the Prospect Park ice skating rinks

Weekdays admission $7.50 per person

Weekend admission $11.00 per person

Skate rentals $8.00 per person – they carry sizes starting at size 8 in youth all the way to size 15 in adult.

Knee pads or elbow pads $3 per set per person

Penguin Skate Aids are $12.00 for 30 minutes or $17 for an hour.

Helmet rentals $6.00 per person

Skate Sharpening $13.00

FREE  Ice Skating

Yes, there is free Prospect Park ice skating available on Monday afternoons for children throughout the skating season!

Exclusions are the holidays and adults pay a discounted rate of $6.00 instead of the full admission price, skate rentals are also at a discounted price of $5.00.

There’s also group pricing for anyone in groups of 10 or more which includes admission to the Prospect Park ice skating rinks, skate rentals, as well as one bag check per person in the group.

Weekday group tickets are $13 per person or $12 per person for non-profit organizations.

Weekend group tickets are $16 per person or $13 per person for non-profit organizations.

Ice Skating Season Pass

This gets you unlimited admission to public ice skating sessions, unlimited skate rentals, complimentary bag check, 10% discount for food purchases at Bluestone Cafe, 10% discount on Skate School + Learn to Play Hockey Clinics, and $25 off Birthday Party Packages.

Individual season passes are $150 and family passes are $450 for four members, anyone additional to four is an extra $100.

Figure Skating at Prospect Park

Are you looking to take your ice skating to another level or maybe you already have? Don’t worry, there are Freestyle figure skating sessions for advanced skaters to practice or private lessons you can take.

In order to use these 60-minute sessions, you must be at the Basic6/Gamma level or higher and bring your own figure skates.

They limit these sessions to 30 figure skaters maximum.

If you have your own coach, guest coaches are allowed to teach for a $22.00 fee per session and must have their coaching insurance listing on hand with Lakeside as additionally insured.

You do not need a reservation and this is held in the uncovered Prospect Park ice rink. Sessions only get canceled when its raining or there’s wet snow.

Admission is $22.00 per session or $17.00 for season pass holders.

There are also figure skating shows, see their calendar if you want to compete in them!

Curling at Prospect Park

If you want to enjoy more winter and ice activities consider joining a curling clinic or league! They take place on every Wednesday and Sunday evenings during the ice rink season.

You can also make group reservations for groups of 8 or more.

Hockey at Prospect Park

You can enjoy or learn hockey at the Prospect Park ice rinks too! Join a clinic, leagues, or open sessions during the regular skating season.

There are private lessons too in case you want to learn how to play hockey or improve!

  1. Good morning I would like to ice skate there but it’s supposed to rain Saturday is the ice skating under a covered roof?

    1. Hi John, there are two rinks that are connected to eachother, one is open-air with a covered roof and the other is completely outdoors. The weekends tend to be busier, so be sure to get your ticket online in advance!
